x11vnc 0.9.7 Review
Real X displays are displays corresponding to a physical monitor, key board and mouse. A software tool that is used to remotely view and interact with these displays is the x11vnc 0.9.7 program. Working together with a VNC viewer, the program operates from a small set of standard libraries.
Written in the C programming language, x11vnc 0.9.7 is able to run on most UNIX systems and its POSIX variants along with support for Mac OS X. The recent versions have been extended to work with non X devices as well which include: webcams and tuners, embedded Linux systems, and Mac OS X Aqua/ Quartz.
Some of the features of x11vnc 0.9.7 includes:
. Support provided for increasing number of command line options namely –nofb for dual headed mode with Wub2VNC which is part of the LibVNVServer Project.
. Provision for an encrypted Terminal Services mode based on UNIX usernames and passwords. In this case, the user does not need to memorize the VNC display/port number.
. Ability to work with X sessions on physical hardware in addition to the virtual X sessions.
. Support provided for SSL/TLS encryption and RSA authentication.
. Extended support for a variety of features which include: Zeroconf service advertising, TightVNC and UltraVNC file transfer, server side scaling, support for VeNCrypt to name a few.
