Daisuke Morita a Japanese developer created Piggydb because he couldn’t find an alternative tool that suited his needs. He developed the application in Java since he believed it is the easiest and the best platform to develop web based applications.
At first sight, Piggydb seemed like any other Knowledge Management tool but sans the flourish of the contemporary collaboration and Web 2.0 tools that you may find.
However, when tried, it is pleasantly surprising to finally find an application that focuses on the organization of information rather than the sharing aspect. Piggydb allows you to create your database of information from scratch with its simple and intuitive features and user-friendly interface.
While you use Piggydb, you will find that the process of accumulating and organizing your information “fragments” as the application refers to them is very easy. Piggydb excels when you need a multi-user knowledge management system that can be operated either over the internet, or on a LAN, since its authentication and user management is simple and yet functional and effective.
What makes Piggydb outclass most of its counterparts is not just its compatibility with a wide variety of operating systems such as Linux, Solaris, Mac OS and windows, but also the fact that it can serve both and with equal efficiency, as a standalone tool for an individual, as well as a collaboration tool for teams that need to share information and knowledge.
In a world where we are worth only as much information we have and can retrieve in time, Piggydb provides a simple and efficient solution to individuals and organizations alike and most importantly an uncannily well developed and packaged application that should be available as freeware.
