The Oxford English Dictionary (OED), published by the Oxford University Press (OUP), is a comprehensive dictionary of the English language. Two fully-bound print editions of the OED have been published under its current name, in 1928 and 1989; as of December 2008 the dictionary’s current editors have completed a quarter of the third edition. The second edition of OED has updated 2000new words and phrases from the ongoing research program.
Oxford English Dictionary also incorporates software improvements whilst maintaining and user friendly functionality. Advanced Search function enables to explore vast wealth of information. Complex search expressions are enabled through the use of Boolean operators, case-sensitive searching, exact character searching, restricting searches to the previous search results, searching in pronunciations, and an extended range of wildcard options. The Automatic Lookup feature enables fast access to the OED headwords from any Microsoft Office® 97, 2000, XP, 2003, 2007, or Windows application. This feature can also be used to look up words in the definition or quotation text. Oxford English Dictionary is available is single-user PC version only. It does not support Network or Mac version. The computer should have minimum 200MHZ Pentium-class processor with 64 MB RAM and 32 speeds CD ROM drive. The operating systems should be Windows 92SE, NT4, 2000, Me, XP or Vista. The computer should have 1.1 GB hard disk space to run the software from CD ROM and 1.7 GB to install the OED to the hard disk. SVGA monitor set to 800 x 600 pixels is required for 16-bit settings.
