Most spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel support the CSV format (Comma Separated Values) of a file which also stands for a comma delimited file. Excel Importer/Exporter 1.1 is a tool that acts as an interface for importing the data from CSV format to MySQL database format. There is no need to have an in-depth knowledge of SQL for the seamless operation of importing and exporting tables.
Some of the features of this tool include:
. Connection to the MySQL database by providing host, username and password. Allows for the connection to be established for remote databases as well with the option of saving the connect information for future use. Provisions to select the database and the necessary table are also provided.
. Options to import the CSV file to the MySQL server database by uploading the CSV file, specifying the number of records to preview with the help of a column separator, displaying the total number of columns and records within that number, options to view all records in a pop up window, and a step by step wizard to walk through the process of import.
. Options to import the record from the first line hence leaving out the column title, as well as options to perform a series of management operations on the data which would include: appending new records, replace existing records, updating records using a primary key function. As and when the import is finished, a process summary report is created. Previous import processes can also be undone by restoring the original data.
. Export options which include ability to connect with MySQL database both locally or remotely, selection of the database and table needed to be exported, selection of either entire table or specific columns for data export. The data can be previewed before being exported.
. Sign up options for users with numerous facilities like creation of various database groups and tables for each group, allocation of tables for user access, and deletion of files from the database. Import and export of all CSV files to the selected database through the front end is also allowed for.
. Notifications sent to the administrator upon a new user sign up and table submissions along with time zone settings.
. Security provided to the users who sign up from spam and bots. This requires both the GD library and FreeType Library.
